Black Sheep Brewery Monty Python’s Holy Grail Beer Review

Holy Grail

Black Sheep Brewery’s Monty Python’s Holy Grail is one of the more fun cans you will come across. Of course it was the only reason I decided to pick it up at the store, that and perhaps finding a decent beer with a little comedic relief while also clocking in at 4.7% ABV.

The can advertises an “Amber Gold Ale tempered over burning witches.” It also states at the top of the can that, “Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries.” Nothing like a little fun in advertising.

The beer poured surprisingly well. It left a nice head of about a finger and a half and laced the glass pretty well. Aromatically I was drawn to the malt but also noted a sweetness that hinted at a cider. The color was a nice amber and looked inviting.

The beer is smooth and light in the mouth. There is a little hop finish but it doesn’t have the bite of an IPA and the hops in this beer offer a smooth, dry finish. There are notes of sweetness and tartness. Perhaps a hint of apple, or something like it.

This beer is not quite a brown ale and not quite an IPA but it offers a little of both. There is a maltiness that is pleasant and comforting to the palate.

The beer is actually very drinkable and several in a session are possible. It won’t knock your socks off but it could be something you keep an eye out for from time to time. It was sold at my local store in a four-pack of one pint cans. The beer isn’t bad at all, a solid offering honestly, but the can is still the real star here.
