Unibroue Brewing Company teamed with Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine to create A Tout Le Monde, a Belgian style Saison Ale.
Given the nature of the beer it had to be tried. I wasn’t sure what to expect from this. Saison Ales are usually very good but this one seemed like it might be a bit different, kind of like Mustaine is different from most people.
Upon pouring there was a very thick white foam that held itself very well even after several sips. The aroma was a lot weaker than I was expecting. You do notice hints of spice and fruit but it is not nearly as fragrant as some Saison Ales can be. The color is similar to apricot or peach but with a golden glow.
The first sip teased green apple but also a slight hint of orange and spice as well as yeast. It isn’t unpleasant by any means. It feels very light in the mouth with some carbonation. There is a taste that is reminiscent of dried apricot with a sweet, slightly bitter taste. It finishes crisp and dry.
As the beer drank the carbonation was reduced. It lacked the consistency that I would have liked to see. However, it did maintain a decent flavor. Mostly it was consistent with what was noted before but there were times where a sip offered a hint of something else. The predominant taste I get is one of green apple, apricot, yeast, and some coriander or orange.
My glass was laced like a wedding dress, especially on the second one. There was still some head on the beer halfway through which was nice, but as mentioned before the carbonation dissipated a bit. I wouldn’t call this a complex beer. I wouldn’t label it simple either. Overall this is a fun beer to drink but at around $11-12 per four-pack I don’t know if this is something I would grab on a regular basis. I wouldn’t mind grabbing this to go along with a 12-pack of cheaper beer to break up the flavor profile and monotony. At 4.5% ABV it is very drinkable from a volume standpoint though we don’t condone drinking in excess here at The Sporting Brews.
You will have to like Saison Ale in order to appreciate this. If you already know you don’t like Saison or White Ales then just stay away from this beer. If you do like them then give this a try, at the very least you get a decent beer in a cool bottle.
