Schlafly Coconut Creme Ale Review

Schlafly Coconut Creme Ale

Schlafly The Saint Louis Brewery opened its doors in 1991 in Missouri and has been growing with the craft beer explosion. Their beers are now offered nationwide and they offer a wide variety of year-round beers as well as some interesting special releases. One of those special releases is their Coconut Crème Ale.

The beer pours a hazy yellow with a fair amount of bubbles rising to the surface. There was about a half finger’s worth of a white, foamy head. Sadly, by the time the picture was taken the head had dissipated. The aroma of the brew is one of coconut, bready malt, and faint hops.

The first sip gives you the roasted coconut that is advertised but it is far from overwhelming. The bready malts make their appearance on your tongue as well. The beer is a light to medium feel that has a bit of a creaminess to it. It finishes surprisingly drier than you would expect. There is also a note of citrus, maybe a lime? It is hard to place the citrus flavor but it complements the beer well.

The roasted coconut of this beer is actually really pleasant. It gives the beer a unique flavor that is perfect for summer. At 5.5% ABV it is easy to drink this at the beach, at the ballpark, or at home while grilling up some meat.

Overall, this is a pretty decent beer with a unique flavor, easy drinkability, and isn’t going to break your bank for a good craft beer. This is one that is an excellent fit for summer.
